Lake Fryxell (2021)

Written during the second national UK lockdown, having not left my neighbourhood in months, the lack of true engagement with the outside world left me feeling static.

To scratch that itch in my brain, I spent multiple evenings 'travelling' on Google Maps and exploring countries I saw as being on the edge of the world or relatively untouched by the effects of modern society.

This piece is named after the lake of the same name in Antarctica and takes inspiration from its expansive white landscapes and frozen lakes. Combining virtuosic piano lines with gliding sul ponticello strings, the piece captures the beauty and fragility of Lake Fryxell's ice sheets.

Lake Fryxell was workshopped by the Fidelio Trio in April 2021 in Royal Holloway, London and premiered during Royal Birmingham Conservatoire's CODA Festival in June 2021.
